TUMPRENG, Sep 11: In a latest update, the All Assam Mid-day Meal Cook Association members from across the state went on strike and carried out a protest in Guwahati, demanding better salaries and benefits. The protest was conducted after the Assam Government failed to fulfill the demands of the workers even after a memorandum was submitted to the Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for a salary increment.

The protest commenced early this morning at around 6 a.m. which was led by the organization’s president Sobita Bora, secretary Trishna Nath and Onil Rongpi. During the protest, the demonstrators were also committed to confront the chief minister on a matter pertaining to salaries. However, a personal assistant tended to the matter due to his unforeseen circumstances. Following the interaction between the officials and the organization, a memorandum addressed to Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was also submitted.

Later, while speaking to media, workers asserted that they are being paid only Rs.30/- per day which is causing difficulty in supporting their family. As a result, they have urged the Assam Chief Minister to increase their pay up to Rs. 9600/- per month as remuneration for their service.
